““The Annual Festival is a vital part of our junior calendar. It doesn’t just give a tremendous boost to our fund-raising activities but also gives everyone involved with the club a huge sense of pride and achievement when we show off what we are capable o”
Mark Garrett - HRUFC Junior Chair
This weekend (29th & 30th April) saw Harrogate RUFC hosting its annual Junior Rugby Festival for the second time at their new Rudding Lane ground. The Festival has become a regular event on club’s fixtures schedules from right across the UK and this year was no different. Across the 2 days the club welcomed over 1500 players from clubs as far away as Wiltshire, Leicestershire and Staffordshire as well as more local teams from Yorkshire, Cheshire and Durham.
Saturday 29th was the Junior day with teams ranging from U13s to U16s all competing for the trophies in a variety of knockout, league and waterfall competitions. The dry weather meant all games drew plenty of visiting and local spectators who saw Harrogate winning the U13 prize, Darlington Mowden Park taking the honours on the U14s, Old Laurentians securing a hard-fought victory in the U15s and Percy Park coming out on top after a thrilling final against Billingham with the U16s.
Sunday 30th welcomed the “Minis” sections which covers boys and girls from U7s up to U12s. As the clouds cleared the sun shone on a stunning Rudding Lane as everyone took part in well over 100 separate games of rugby. The day saw the Rudding Lane ground reach record breaking capacity with sell over 2000 players and spectators enjoying the day and the range of food and drink offers put on by the club.
