Saturday 10th August -
We’re away to Newport, Shropshire. Bill Barrack played for them up to 1977 which will be before any of our current players were born. We narrowly defeated them in a home pre-season match last year and, having been serious promotion candidates, both Clubs finished third in their respective National Premier Leagues. It promises to again be a great contest between two evenly matched sides.
Newport and Harrogate are both Wooden Spoon Partner Clubs so we’ll again be playing for the “Graham Siswick Wooden Spoon Memorial Trophy”.
It will be a 3pm KO at Newport and the team coach will be leaving the Club at 10am. Supporters will be welcome.
Newport have advised us that they’re unable to raise a side so the 10th August pre-season fixture there is off. Apologies to our players and supporters
Saturday 17th August
We’re home to Kings College, London. Phil Wickham’s brother is based there and is organizing their trip.
This is also going to be the “Charley Purkiss-McEndoo Memorial Match” so it will be a very emotional day for all of us. Right up to the end of last season, Charley was our dynamic loose head prop but was tragically killed in a forestry accident in May. Hayley and Charley’s family want the match to also be in support of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. More details of the arrangements will follow but it will be a 3pm KO.
Saturday 31st August
We’re home to Sutton Coldfield, Mike Ashford’s old Club. The last time the Clubs met was in the promotion play off match in 2013 when Harrogate won a closely competed match. We still have a few players who took part in that memorable match so it’s going to be quite an occasion. Again, it will be a 3pm KO
Saturday 7th September
We start the League season with an away local derby against Ilkley. This is also going to double up as a 2nd Round Yorkshire Cup match. What a way to start the season.
