Late touchline conversion seals victory in amazing game
George Hampson was the calmest person in the ground when he calmly knocked over a 78th minute touchline conversion to seal victory in an amazing game.
A strong Georgian side traveled to Hipperholme for what turned out to be an unbelievable game full of everything that makes the Premiership great, skill, passion, desire, skill and errors too.
Harry Parrish was on hand to open the scoring after a flowing movement with backs and forwards in unison for an early lead 5 v 0.
Brods were very determined and caused us issues at the breakdown and responded with a great try after their back move clicked into place and scored out wide 5 v 5
The Georgian scrum was dismantling the home pack at the set piece but the game was much more even at the breakdown and lineout.
Playing with the wind and slope the Georgians spurned several scoring opportunities in a fragmented first half but eventually scored through Liam Hucknall 12 v 5
Brods recovered almost immediately and scored a try through the pack 12 v 10.
A Danny Cooke try wide out after a great move featuring a 20m pass from flanker Tom Young to Harry Parrish to feed Danny to score out wide 17 v 10.
Brods hit back with a try wide out thanks in part to some unusually flaky tackling 15 v 17 and as the Georgians error count increased a further well worked try saw the home side take the lead for the first time 20 v 17.
The game was now see sawing and a Harry Johnson try from a forward drive edged the Georgians ahead again 20 v 24.
Almost immediately Brods hit back with their backs again profiting from a missed tackle but support was there to ensure the final pass left a man unopposed 25 v 24.
Into the last 10 minutes Brods again crossed the whitewash but crucially the conversion was just wide but a healthy 30 v 24 lead.
Matt Lansdall then gambled by charging out of the line to intercept the home side pass and raced away uphill to score out wide and set up the touchline conversion from young George.
The game ended, both teams deserve great credit Brods showed that their promotion last year was fully justified and are very welcome additions to the Premiership, they took 2 points and almost the victory.
We look forward to welcoming them to Rudding lane later in the year.
