The first quarter was pretty disciplined with Gate playing with structure and composure but often despite creating space the final ball went astray.
Ben Pye scored the opening try of the game with a fantastic one handed pick up at pace 15m out and then side stepping the covering defence to score a brilliant try with Tim adding the extras 7 v 0.
Several other chances were spurned and when Cass went over to reduce the arrears to 5 v 7 it looked as if we would be made to pay however a further penalty by Tim added a little bit of breathing space at 5 v 10.
Cass then took the lead with a converted try at 12 v 10 but the young gate team kept looking to play with width and pace.
Cass brought on several replacements and started to adopt a much more physical approach, there was a nasty punch thrown at young Bryn off the ball and Sam Rowntree was punched several times by a player he had tackled into touch.
Not to be intimidated Sam rounded off a good move with a try to regain the lead with about 5 mins to go and as a team they worked well to close out a victory that in truth was narrower than it should have been, but a victory none the less.
The pack went well all game with the front row creating the platform Dave & Ben anchoring the scrum superbly, Jonno tireless all over the field and youngsters Bryn, Sam Thomas & Sam Rowntree working really well in the loose.
The back line always looked dangerous and but for a few passes that went astray could have run in several tries.
All in all a big improvement and a justly deserved win against a competitive side.
