Harrogate went onto the pitch with a new team, changed from when they had last encountered York Ri. Although nervous, the squad were determined to play hard against the team at the top of the table.
But York caught Harrogate out straight from the whistle. Scoring a try in the corner.
It took some time for Harrogate to get into the game, letting 3 tries past them in the first 15 minutes. Finding the space out wide and breaking through the defensive line. Harrogate hit hard in the tackle, especially outside centre Lizzie Goddard-Taylor.
By the first half Harrogate were down 37-0, but undeterred they were not going to give up on this battle. York were stronger, passing sider, running through defenders and stealing the Harrogate scrum.
In the second half Harrogate up their game, taking York back onto their own try line on multiple times, but struggled to get over the line with dropped balls and interceptions from York.
Both of these teams were in each others half, Harrogate stronger in the defense line and hitting the tackles harder.
York were able to pull into more tries in the second half, but tiring, Harrogate continued, pushing in the scrum and stealing from York, mauling the ball to reach metres from the try line and turning over the ball in the rucks.
With a final score of 0-51 to York, Harrogate shouldn’t be downhearted. York RI were always a tough team to go up against but always stayed strong willed and ready for the next match.
Harrogate have their last match of the season at home against Bishop Auckland on April 10th.
