Barnett’s side wiped out their opposition, Acklam Avengers in their penultimate league game of the season on Sunday whilst playing away in Middlesbrough. The visitors dominated in both possession and attack, giving Acklam little room to defend as they crossed the try line a total of 16 times!
The Harrogate backs showed their individual strengths with an exhibition of exceptional runs but additionally, showed their strength as a unit with a display of perfect passing along the backline as they moved up the pitch. Both Jessica Wild and Rose Jay scored a hat-trick of tries for their side with Evie Tonkin, Ailish Clear, Sophie Harker and Leah Birkin all taking two each. A special mention goes to Second row, Debra Humphries who readily received the ball whilst stepping the last line of defence to scoring her first try for Harrogate.
The forwards also made their mark with strong forward drives from Maisie Barnett and Josie Riggs, in addition to the mass of touchdowns Clear, Tonkin and Landau all booted over conversions adding the extra points to the scoreboard. What was obvious from the game, in which Harrogate doubled the score line from their previous match against Acklam was the progress which the team has made since the beginning of the season and the sense of togetherness the Ladies hold as a team.
