Harrogate U16’s travelled to Thirsk RUFC for their first round match of this seasons Yorkshire Cup, a repeat of last seasons draw.

Harrogate dominated the match with free flowing rugby, excellent handling skills and interlinking between forwards and backs.
Early Harrogate pressure had Thirsk pinned back on their line. A defensive 5 metre scrum was taken against the head by Gate with the ball shipped along the backs, the resulting overlap gave Luke Gair the simplest of touch downs, Callum Beasley added the conversion 7-0.
Minutes later and Harrogate were on the attack again, a strong drive from second row Lozz Hargreaves was held up just short of the line, flanker Harry Holroyd picked up at the back of the ruck and crashed over the line, Beasley again added the conversion 14-0.
Further Harrogate pressure and an attacking 5 metre scrum resulted in No 8 Scott Irvine picking up and going blind to score, Beasley again on target 21-0.
Thirsk then managed to get hold of the ball and push into the Harrogate half with Gate penalised on their own twenty two for killing the ball at the breakdown. Thirsk kicked the penalty 21-3.
Harrogate came straight back gaining a penalty of their own. The ball was shipped along the backs with back rowers Cullon Troy and Irivne joining the move. A pass back inside to Irvine eventually breaching the home defence, Beasley again had his kicking boots on 28-3.
A further Harrogate penalty, a quick tap and go from Rory Cardwell linking well with Irvine who passed back inside for Gair to score his second try. 33-3 Conversion missed.
Next a break from scrum half Harry Fewkes, quickly recycled ball for Holroyd to burst forward with a well timed pass back inside for Scott Irvine to complete his hatrick under the posts with the extra’s added. 40-3
Just before half time came the champagne moment Lozz Hargreaves showing his superb athleticism. collecting the ball bursting through a couple of attempted tackles and racing 60 metres to outstrip the defence for a great try, the conversion was missed 45-3 half-time.
Harrogate continued the same in the second half Scott Irvine rounding off a fine personal display with his fourth try, the conversion was added 52-3.
More ball along the Gate backs saw winger Alistair Cameron-Jones cut back inside and through the home defence to score, conversion missed 57-3.
Harrogate introduced all their subs at this stage and Thirsk managed to get their hands on the ball putting together some decent phases of play resulting in a well deserved converted try. 57-10
Thirsk were then reduced to 14 players with rather amusingly ex Harrogate player Chris Palliser throwing a punch at his ex team mate Harry Fewkes although Fewkes nimbly managed to get most of his head out of the way.
Harrogate were soon back on the attack replacement No8 Josh Willson picking up and driving over from a 5 metre scrum, Beasley again adding the conversion 64-10.
The final score came from the final play of the game another penalty, ball along the backs and hard working centre Ollie Collingwood finding the gap to touch down, Beasley coolly slotting the conversion through the posts under severe taunting from his own team as they waited to shake hands with the opposition.

Final score Thirsk 10 Harrogate 71
