Harrogate Under 16s won an extraordinary Yorkshire Cup match away at Pocklington.

The game started with sustained Pocklington pressure and prolonged periods of play near the Harrogate line.

It was very surprising that Harrogate scored three tries against the run of play. Ed Finney opened the scoring after some fine play by Cameron Roberts at scrum half.

Callum Irvine added the two points.

Roberts then scored the second before Callum Irvine ran half the length of the pitch sidestepping and dodging tackles to score the third giving the away team a seemingly improbable 0 - 17 lead.

It was no surprise when Pocklington crossed the Harrogate line and they added a penalty to make the half time score 8 - 17.

Unfortunately the second half was punctuated with a long delay for treatment to the Pocklington fly half following an injury.

Harrogate scored five unanswered converted tries in the second half to make the final score 8 - 52 in a game that, for much of the time, seemed far closer than the scoreline suggests.

Irvine, Finney and Roberts each scored their second try and both Alexander Cook and Liam Monaghan scored a try each. Irvine kicked particularly well from hand and ground and was successful with six conversions in the game.

Overall it was a very strong team performance from a side that was missing several key players.

Harry Wetherald, Roberts and Irvine put in exceptional performances at number 8, 9 and 10 respectively and there were a number of other strong displays notably from Rob Usher, Alexander Cook , Scott Stevenson and Will Ellis
