FANTASTIC START TO THE SEASON!

Beautiful sunshine and a dry pitch are not the normal things that come to mind when describing Moortown.
However, utilising these conditions our Piranhas did us proud.
Nat and Louis were playing their first match and the rest of the team were looking a bit rusty for the first game. However, overseen by Dave Topley (Piranhas) and Andy Atkinson (Stingrays) they were soon into their stride with fantastic performances from the 'old hands' William, Alex, Luke, Jackson and Josh. Matthew proved to be the most improved player from the off season, with a number of tags and passes.
Battling with their competitive urges to keep the best players on the pitch at all times even at the cost of his own son, so that they could win. Andy and Dave rotated the squad effectively to enable all to play a full part in all the matches, culminating in a fantastic match in the final against Wetherby. A closely fought contest was won by wetherby's better organisation in defence. Our players, used to making line breaks and scoring were now meeting a second line of covering defence. The required passes, before being tagged, to beat this line were not readily available as per last season and Wetherby were worthy winners.
Thanks to Moortown for arranging the competition, we can now look forward to hosting the North Yorkshire RFU world cup in two weeks time.

Great work by our coaches enabled us to send the remainder of the squad to Ripon for a friendly with our northern neighbours, resulting in us having well over twenty active players. Wonderful hosts as ever, led to a great day here too.
