Selby and West Park Festival

As we build towards Festival season, the busiest day of our year so far, started with an U9 team playing two games against Selby. Honours were shared, with Harrogate winning the first game 5:4 and narrowly losing the second 4:2.

Again, an excellent team performance all round with some exceptional counter rucking and defensive tackling. Special mentions to Freddie BB for some amazing tackling and Will L and Harvey R for their breakaway tries, even if Will L was supposed to be on the other wing at the time he scored!!!

Then, some of the boys joined their teamates at West Park for their Festival.

We were drawn in Pool A and played Morley, York and West Park in the pool matches. We won all three matches scoring 8 unanswered tries along the way.

In a very tense semi final against a very physical Goole side we ultimately prevailed due to a count back as the match itself ended 1:1.

That set up a final against Otley. Again, a very tense match with no quarter given by either side but as result of a couple of moments of individual brilliance from Harry W and Danny D, we were delighted when the whistle blew with us leading 2:1.

As always, this achievement was a genuine team effort, every player played their part and seven different players scored tries on the day. To only concede two tries in five matches against very strong opposition was a testament to the same level of teamwork and determination that the boys had shown in the morning at Selby.

Whilst not wishing to single any players out, special mentions must go to Harry W and Ben I for their individual contributions.

All in, a great series of performances by all of the U9's and we look forward to two teams next playing in the Kirkby Lonsdale Festival on 17 March.
