It wasn't just the England Team that excelled yesterday!

There can be no doubt who came away from yesterday’s fixture the victors as a single team of 11 Harrogate Under 10 players took on the entire Goole squad…and won.

Space restriction meant that only 11 players from Harrogate were able to make the long journey to Goole yesterday and play a fixture that could have gone either way following Goole’s visit to Claro Rd.

The good weather was a welcome change as Harrogate arrived to be greeted by the entire Goole squad looking well organised and ready for action. Play started with both spectators and players unsure as to how the game would play out which was emphasised when Goole pinned Harrogate in their own half for the first 5 mins of the game. The boys dug deep and with their usual physical style of play gained a turnover which found its way out to the wing and over the try line.

With the first score on the board Harrogate relaxed into possibly the performance of their young lives playing total rugby for the rest of the morning.

The first game closed 7 – 1 to Harrogate and the second game was more one sided with Harrogate delivering 8 trys to Goole’s zero. The second game also produced the try of the season which (similar to Luther Burell’s yesterday) started with a line out on one side of the pitch before passing through 5 pairs of hands before scoring on the opposite corner.
The final game was more challenging as fresh legs provided by the depth of the Goole squad face 11 young men who had already played 2 full and physical games. Harrogate weren’t ready to give an inch and delivered another clean sheet finishing the day 7-1, 8-0 & 5-0.

I don’t think any player or parent would deny they travelled to Goole with quite a few nerves and none would deny they left on quite a high. I was very proud of all the boys yesterday and rather than pick out individual performances I would like to say well done to the team because it was the team that performed so well!
