Sunday saw a really gutsy and impressive performance for the U13's as they appeared in a 7s festival for the first time. The famous Pocklington 7s were visited by an U13's side determined to throw the ball around and see what 7s was all about. In the tougher Pool B, Gate started in style beating Selby 40-5, with most of the points scored out wide. There really was some lovely handling from Ben, Danny, and Henry with clinical finishing from Jack. There followed impressive wins against Morley Lions and Old Brods. After the pool stage it was 3 from 3, having scored over 80 points. The excellent restarts from Ben caused havoc in the opposition as Harry and Drew, were dominant in the air, and almost unstoppable as they powered over. In the other pool however, there was stronger opposition in the form of Morley Tigers and Pocklington, and the Harrogate squad of 10 was now picking up injuries. Sam LT bravely dived on a ball to save a try against Morley and took a bang, which saw him out of the tournament. In the semi-final Gate played the strong Morley Tigers side, who were clearly up for it, in a fierce battle which saw 3 more injuries to Barney, Toby and Drew. After a gutsy and determined performance the final was against Pocklington. Drew bravely played in the final despite going off in the semi, but it was going to be a big ask. There was plenty of local support for the home side, but the visitors dug in. Leading 3-2 at the break having played uphill, the first score in the second half was going to be crucial. Thankfully it went to Gate and they never looked back. Some excellent finishing from Fred, Jack coupled with some intelligent line breaks from Ben, saw Harrogate win 8-2. It was a great day, in which the U13's scored over 180 points in 5 games. It was a real team performance and they fully deserved it. Thanks for the great support, especially from Jacob "Team Fred" Garrett.
