campaign on the road by defeating a strong Old Brod's side 27 points to 7.
‘Gate got off to a good start with Luke Hudson going over for an early try. 'Gate's second try resulted from line out through swift hands down the line to David Swarbrick to touch down.
'Gate's third try was pretty much the same from David Swarbrick although he ran in from much further out and Will Clough converted from under the posts.
All credit to Old Brods. They were physical in their tackles and had a strong back line which made a number of penetrating runs, helped by their forwards securing good ball from scrums and mauls.
Half Time 17 - 0
'Gate playing uphill kept pressure on Old Brods who tackled relentlessly. David Swarbrick made another penetrating run from the 'Gate half and side stepped a couple of Old Brods. The try was disallowed as it appeared as though he dropped it after going over. However, not to be perturbed David Swarbrick sealed his hat trick a few minutes later - set piece from the scrum, went in over corner.
‘Gate’s 5th try came from close forward play on Old Brods line with Jack Barnard powering over at close quarters.
Old Brods never gave up and secured points on the board in the dying moments of the game - Jordon Hogan made a determined run from within his own half, shook off several gate tackles and went in under the posts. Try converted.
