Harrogate U-15's squad beat a strong Middlesbrough side 35 points to 5 in wonderful rugby playing conditions at Claro Road on Sunday afternoon.
The first points to the home side came from a Max Simmons try and a Will Clough conversion before Jack McTiernan crossed for the visitors. The evenly contested first half saw Boro fail to capitalise on more than one scoring chance because of fierce defence from 'Gate on their 5 yard line.
Then, against the run of play, Steve Townsend ran from deep inside his own half and offloaded the ball to Will Clough who chipped over for Greg Minikin to chase down in the corner and again Will Clough added the extras.
Next came two superb solo tries resulting from excellent individual running by Ollie Harris and Luke hudson bagging one each before the referee awarded a penalty try (instead of what should have been Ollie Harris's second try of the afternoon). Ollie side-stepped, swerved and dodged through a flat footed Boro defence only to be brought down illegally just short of the line. Luke Hudson added all three conversions.
