Harrogate travelled to Driffield for their 2nd round Yorkshire Cup tie on Sunday.

Driffield were a side Harrogate had not played before.
The morning was damp and foggy with visibility limited.
Harrogate kicked off and the first few minutes passed evenly with the two teams sizing each other up. Harrogate began to apply the pressure forcing Driffield onto the back foot but four silly penalties given away by Harrogate one for handling on the floor, one for the forwards going off their feet at the ruck and two for binding offences in the scrum allowed Driffield to keep Harrogate at bay.
Harrogate continued to apply the pressure, the forwards produced a series of pick up and drives making over 20 metres before Driffield were penalised for handling on the floor and stopping the Harrogate momentum. From the resulting penalty the ball was passed along the backs to Luke Gair who shrugged off a couple of tackles before giving Harrogate a deserved try. Jack London added an excellent conversion 7-0.
It was then Driffields turn to attack but crucially the Harrogate forwards turned over Driffield ball 5 metres from their line, Driffield then gave away a penalty allowing Harrogate to clear and take control of the match.
More Harrogate forward pressure pinned Driffield back to their line resulting in an attacking scrum. Cullon Troy broke blind from the scrum passing to winger Alistair Cameron-Jones who scored in the corner, the conversion was narrowly missed 12-0.
Harrogate continued to turn the screw adding a third try before halftime. Jack London broke blind cleverly directing his supporting wings running path, the defence also followed his directive allowing London to give the dummy and step through the gap he had so skilfully created before showing his pace to sprint 40 metres for a superb try, the conversion was again missed. Halftime arrived Harrogate 17 Driffield 0.
Harrogate continued to score at regular intervals throughout the second half. An excellent break by centre Oliver Collingwood resulted in a second try for Cameron-Jones, Cullon Troy scored from close range following forward pressure, not to be out done by his fellow winger Luke Gair added another try. The final score of the match came from a quickly taken 5 metre penalty which saw Scott Irvine round off his own good performance with a try. London added one more conversion.
In the final minutes Driffield’s frustrations were compounded when one of their forwards was sent off for stamping.
The final whistle came with the score Driffield 0 Harrogate 39
The Harrogate squad can be proud of their excellent all round performance and fully deserved victory.
