gaining good field position with Hull inevitably giving penalties to allow Joe Rowntree to demonstrate his kicking prowess landing three successful attempts to give a 0-9 score line.
Hull showed their team spirit and countered the Harrogate players' individual skills with a guile and aggression that eventually led to their forwards rolling a maul over the Harrogate line to make the half time score 7-9.
The Hull side grew in confidence as the second half progressed and a clever inside pass allowed the inside centre to cut back and cross near the posts and give the home side the lead. The game seemed to be slipping away from Harrogate when a moment of brilliance came from Joe Rowntree who took a quick penalty and sprinted 65 metres to score in the corner. With the scores tied, Joe then calmly converted his own try with a kick from the touchline to give Harrogate the lead.
Hull pressed and only good defence prevented further tries but with only seconds of the game left they won a penalty and converted to give them the one point win.
