Harrogate met the unbeaten Malton side at Claro Road and started the better of the two sides, but in a game frequently interrupted by errors it was Malton who took the lead following a powerful forward drive. Stand-in kicker Luke Edwards narrowed the gap with a penalty kick, but a classic crash ball by the Malton centre made the half time score 3-12 to the visitors.
Shortly after the start of the second half, Harrogate stole a Malton line-out and passed the ball down the line to winger Chris Hart who scored in the corner. From the re-start Josh Igoe took a clean catch and broke through the defence, creating the opportunity for Luke Edwards to score Harrogate's second try. The game then changed with a moment of individual brilliance from James Pearson who kicked ahead, collected his own kick and then chipped for a second time, recovering the ball to score a try. Luke Edwards then produced the kick of the game, converting from the side line. The Malton defence began to wilt and Harrogate stand-off Charlie Hunt and then No 8 Josh Igoe capitalised on defensive errors to complete the Harrogate scoring. With almost the last play of the match Malton scored a try to make the final score 32 - 19.
