The visitors came to Claro Road with a 100% record of wins in previous meetings between these two teams, including the 2009 Yorkshire Cup Final. Both teams started nervously however, and it was Harrogate who had the first chance to score with a penalty kick by Joe Rowntree which unusually for him drifted wide of target. After a very evenly matched first half, the teams went into half time without any score being registered although good pressure from Harrogate's James Pearson nearly led to a try immediately before half time.

Harrogate came out for the second half showing much more self-confidence, and pressurised Old Brods into giving away another penalty which was this time slotted between the posts by Rowntree. Both sides proceeded to play fast, powerful and entertaining rugby without the reward of scoring points.

Harrogate's forwards were jointly awarded "man of the match" for their terrific effort in the second half where they managed to gain control over their old rivals. Brods defended strongly but for almost the whole half were pinned back in their own half. In spite of all the pressure Harrogate Colts could not force their way over and three further penalty chances which could have eased the pain for the coaches and spectators were unsuccessful with Joe Rowntree managing to hit the post twice with successive penalty kicks! Both sides fought on to the final whistle and the score remained at 3-0.
