Having had a good win at Huddersfield last week Harrogate found themselves being pushed back by determined opponents for much of the first quarter, but it was an interception by the Harrogate flyer James Pearson that led to the opening score for the home side, converted by Charlie Hunt.
Huddersfield looked sure to hit back when they broke a Harrogate tackle and raced toward the posts only to be thwarted by a last ditch tackle causing the attacker to lose the ball in the in goal area.
Huddersfield were rewarded a few minutes later when good close play led to a try but the goal kicker had lost his tee and took a drop goal which bisected the posts only for the match official to rule the kick was from the wrong spot, the re-taken kick hit the post and bounced back to make the score 7-5.
Harrogate seemed to be stung into action and for the rest of the half produced their best spell with a cross kick by Charlie Hunt almost leading to their second try, only for the ball to be lost over the line. Minutes later James McCormack drove over with the referee being unsighted and unable to award the try.
Huddersfield were then caught offside under their own posts and the goal kicker for Harrogate took the ball but played a tap penalty and caught the defenders out of place passing the ball to James Pearson who crossed at the corner to make the half time score 12-5.
The cold weather conditions did not help either side and the second period became a scrappy affair with both sides guilty of handling errors. It was the Huddersfield close play that set up the only try of the second half and with the missing tee found the conversion was good and the scores levelled. Harrogate then dominated the rest of the match but they were looking for the "miracle ball" and cold hands inevitably led to each play ending with a dropped ball and the game ended as a tie .
