A developmental side took on a strong Yarnbury and scored an impressive if hard fought victory.

A developmental side captained by Noel Minikin ran in 6 tries against a well organised Yarnbury side that featured a number of their First XV squad after their game was postponed.

The newly named "Trojans" started well recycling the ball consistently, however the Yarnbury defensive line was solid and the first try came after approximately 15 phases before the space was created by Tim and a great line saw "Dickie" Davies go in under the posts with Tim adding the extras.

The Trojans always had the edge in the set piece with new recruit Dave Hambling providing a very solid anchor in the front row alongside Bryn "Diesel" and Beags.

After good work by the pack and swift hands along the line "Dickie" scored his second of the day and a half time lead of 14 v 0.

With "Snips" and Matty Broughan (another welcome new recruit) providing plenty of clean ball from the lineout and lots of energy around the field we were always testing the Yarnbury defense but breaking them gown was proving a challenge.

The back row of Noel, Jonny C & Jonno were proving effective at the breakdown & saw plenty of ball and gradually we started to open up the defence.

With man of the match Phil Wickham orchestrating the back line and always looking to make things happen the back line saw plenty of ball.

The introduction of young Denchy in the centres added a bite and was quickly up to speed after a few weeks out and started to make good yards over the gain line, this impetus narrowed the Yarnbury defensive line and space started to be created.

Captain Noel then showed great presence of mind in spotting a weakness in the defensive line to score a well worked try.

"Bryn Diesel" took a great catch and made a trademark bullocking 40m run before releasing Greg to score (the champagne moment)

Harry Barnard showed fantastic skill in picking up a ball down by his boot laces whilst going flat out and touched down with Sam Rowntree knocking over the conversion from out wide (shame his brother was not there to witness it - but Joe was otherwise engaged in the victory over Leicester Lions on pitch 1) Dad David almost got Wimbledon neck trying to keep tabs on both boys.

A second Barnard Try where he showed searing pace as well as balance was just reward for more enterprising play.

The last score of the day went to Yarnbury close to the final whistle which was just reward for their efforts, they played with spirit determination and made the newly names Trojans work very hard indeed for the victory.

All 22 players got good game time and contributed excellently, the only worry was an injury to Beags (tear in bicep) however Tom came on a hooker and we maintained the dominance at scrum time.

It was great to see every member of the First XV and coaching team come across at the end of their game to watch and support the development side - both winning sides then joined in a huddle to sing the "Aces" song.

Good fun afterwards in the clubhouse with fines sessions and mixing and enjoying a beer with our opponents from Leicester and Yarnbury, proper rugby stuff.
