Victory marred by serious injury !

This entertaining game was prematurely ended following a horrendous leg injury to Guy Burroughs about 12 mins from time. After a 45 minute wait for the ambulance to arrive he was taken to LGI where he was admitted overnight and on Sunday had an operation to pin the broken bones. He is recovering and expects to be released from hospital on Wednesday, he has received lots of messages from friends and team mates.

Naturally we all send our best wishes for a speedy recovery, Guy had a fantastic match scoring 3 tries and in helping Gate in a 9 try romp.

The first quarter was end to end stuff, the Gate back line always had too much power and pace for Hegians defence and throughout the game the execution with ball in hand was excellent and some fantastic flowing rugby was played.

Gate opened up the scoring with Guy Burroughs as ever on hand after great work by Jon Dawes with JD adding the extras.
Hegians came straight back after a couple of penalties set up an attacking lineout and the catch & drive tied the scores.

Hegians then took the lead in a move that went the length of the field when for once Gate lost the ball, a long kick & chase began near their try line.

Burroughs responded with almost the next move outpacing the cover to go over out wide with the conversion from JD hitting the top of the upright.

Hegians regained the lead after some direct running to go 19 v 12 ahead after only 20 minutes, this was however to be the last score they made as Gate turned up the pressure and took control in all areas.

Power and pace was again in evidence, this time Matt Halpin on hand to outpace the cover, JD adding the extras.

Jon Dawes then scored a beautiful individual try following great work in the loose by Beags & Adis forcing a turnover – Lovers and Tim combining to set Jon free in space and he accepted the opportunity gladly and added the extras.

The last try of the half went to Bryn Kitching who was always looking to link up with team mates, taking the pop pass from Snips he bulldozed his way over from about 10 meters out the last couple of metres with the help of half the pack, well deserved try and a 31 v 19 lead at the break.

The second half brought no respite for Hegians Guy on hand to finish a move that was simply fantastic – eight or nine phases and a move that covered about 85 metres again with JD adding the extras.

Greg Aspin then showed his pace to outpace the cover going in out wide before Oli Myers ended up finishing off another really well worked try.

Jon Dawes ended up scoring the last try of the game again just too much power and pace for the Hegians defence.
Sadly the injury to Guy brought things to a halt and spoilt what was actually really good game.

Thanks to the Roundhegians physio and officials for helping out and not to mention those supporters who helped to move vehicles etc to allow the ambulance access to the pitch.
