Credit to York for fulfilling the fixture but in truth no one were winners yesterday as the resultant mis match saw gate rack up 22 tries in a one sided affair.
55 minutes before scheduled kick off only one of the York players had arrived but they managed to assemble 18 by kick off having pulled in some vets and players from the 4th team.
Harrogate on the other hand were at full strength with some returning to rugby after Injury and a long lay off plus a number of new faces playing their first game for the club.
From the off a strong drive by the pack saw Harvey Bateman peel off to open the scoring in the first minute, from the kick off fast counter attacking saw Danny Cooke score the first of his two tries and when Will Clough overlapped and crossed again for the third try with only 5 mins played the game was already ended as a contest.
In truth most of the 3's players are training a couple of times per week as part of the senior squad who all train together regardless of which side they are usually selected for and the fitness levels and organisation are pretty advanced which was a major factor here.
The York lads never let their heads drop and kept battling to the end but had run out of steam long before the end
Debutants Will Dennis, Chris Mackinnon & Fraser Kitching enjoyed a first run out and all played their part Scotty Irvine back on the field again after 18 months out bagged a couple of tries, Chris Wilson returning from several months out got some valuable game time as did Bryn Kitching (back again from Uni).
For the record the try scorers were
Greg Aspin & Paddy Hebblethwaite 4 each
2 tries apiece for Scotty, Rich Gray, Danny Cooke & Sam Beagrie
Cloughie, Capital D, Pete Corner, Harvey B, Anthony Chamberlain & Wils.
