The Saxons started at great pace with six players playing their first competitive games for a Harrogate side and three players returning from long term injury needing time on the pitch. We also had a number of players transitioning from Colts rugby into the adult game, the nett result was a blend of youth and experience which proved just too powerful for a game Pontefract side.
Lanny and young Connor opening the scoring in the first 10 mins - Connor getting the first of what would be 4 tries on the day in which he was adjudged a man of the match.
Lanny and Connor each scored again before Pontefract scored a well deserved try, the forwards working a series of pick and go 28 v 7
Gaz, Harry, Doddsie, Paddy and Scottie, Cookie all crossed the whitewash in a second half that saw the Saxons superior speed (due in no small measure to the youth in the side, with 4 players making the transition from colts into senior rugby)
Full credit to Pontefract, playing the game in great spirit on a day when the opposition was simply too fast when the ball went out wide.
The Saxons scored some superb tries on a glorious sunny afternoon at Rudding Lane.
