Old Mods looked a well drilled organised team and used the sloped pitch to their advantage, making Harrogate play from deep inside their own half.
The Leeds based team piled on the pressure and dominated territory, but Harrogate’s young guns led by Elacott, Bolger, Lister, Broadhurst and Mohindra marshaled a stubborn defence.
Following injury to Horacio, the backline was reshuffled with Simmons introduced to inside centre and Bali moving to the wing. This enforced change soon reaped dividends as the ball was moved wide by Myers and although there seemed little opportunity – Simmons effortless step and change of pace left a trail of Old Mods defenders in his wake.
A home penalty brought the scores closer, but not long after Simmons once again conjured up some magic in what seemed like a replay of the first try.
Neither scores were converted and when Old Mods eventually broke the Harrogate defence and added the extras - the scores were tied at half time 10 – 10.
Using the pitch incline Harrogate began to turn the tables on the home team making them play out of their own quarter. The experienced quartet of O’Sullivan, Shattock and Corner guided the youthful pack and it was the latter who used his power from the back of a scrum for force his way over.
An exciting backline moved orchestrated by Half Backs Ellis and Fenn, resulted in flying full back Nick Fallon taking a neat pass from the reliable Bagnall to cruise over and cap an outstanding attacking display.
Not to be outdone, the pack now bolstered by Radcliffe turned the screw in the set-piece and Corner scored a ‘carbon-copy’ try from the base of the scrum.
This capped a good game of rugby, well refereed and an outstanding performance from the Third XV.
