Harrogate Ladies kicked off this Cup Campaign with a victory over Blaydon, with a final score of 43-24 demonstrating that this team is one to watch.
The match started off strong with a try scored by Lauren Hewitt less than 15 minutes into play. The team worked well together to set this up, taking the ball up the pitch with agility and strength. An injury to Jess Deacy-Clarke took the team down to 13, however this didn’t stop Harrogate. They quickly showed their resilience by scoring two more tries (Adoaha Akwiwu, Sarah Foster), both of which were converted by Em Attwood. By half time the score was 19-5, a testament to both the skill and hard work of the team, supplemented by impressive runs from Adoaha Akwiwu, strong tackles from Sarah Foster and Kelly Morgan, and an effective line out from Ruth Fewster-Neale and Hattie Braithwaite.
Strong performance continued into the second half, with tries early on from Charlotte Charnley and Savannah Leroux. Despite a try and a conversion from Blaydon taking the score to 29-12, Harrogate maintained their lead with another try and conversion from Adoaha Akwiwu. Two further tries and one conversion from Blaydon kept the game interesting until the last minute, but Harrogate couldn’t be stopped from scoring a final try and conversion (Adoaha Akwiwu). After a hard-fought match, the Ladies celebrated a resounding win of 43-24, surely setting them up for a dynamic and memorable season ahead.
Harrogate Ladies will next play on Sunday 15th at home against Sefton.
