Southport Ladies RUFC v Harrogate Ladies Rugby Union Football Club
Harrogate Ladies closed the season on a victory, taking them to a strong final position within their league and ensuring continuity for the 2024/25 season.
The match started strong with a try from Adaoha Akwiwu, which was then swiftly converted by Emily Attwood. The team worked well together, putting up a good defence against the opposing players and moving the ball incrementally up the pitch. Before the first 15 minutes had passed, Captain Charlie Goode had scored another try for Harrogate. A third try from Georgina Youlden took the score to 17-7 at Half Time.
Despite entering the second half with a lead of ten points, the Ladies did not reduce their efforts, resulting in an exciting and well-fought game for both sides. The second half saw three more tries from Molli Coleman, Domitille Chennel and Adaoha Akwiwu, two of which were converted by Emily Attwood. After a tenacious and competitive match, the final score was 36-26.
Of particular note are Forward of the Match (Jess Deacy-Clarke), Back of the Match (Molli Coleman) and Opposition Player of the Match (Adaoha Akwiwu). The outcome of the 2023/24 season is worth celebrating for Harrogate Ladies, who have continued to develop their skills and build on their strengths to become a strong contender in the Championship North 2 League. The players will take a well-deserved rest throughout May before picking up training again over the summer, Tuesdays and Thursdays at Rudding Lane, Harrogate.
