Birkenhead Panthers RUFC v Harrogate Ladies Rugby Union Football Club
This weekend saw another victory for Harrogate Ladies RUFC against Birkenhead Panthers, with a final score of 15-30 to the hard-fighting Harrogate women.
The match started off strong with a try from Georgina Youlden in the first five minutes, followed shortly by further tries from Savannah Leroux and Georgia Briggs. Harrogate excelled pushing the ball down the pitch and retaining possession throughout the first half, thanks in part to the efforts of Charlie Goode, Charlotte Charnley and Lauren Hewitt . Scrum half Hattie Braithwaite put in a strong performance against the opposing team, unphased by attempts at intimidation. A number of impressive tackles from Emily Attwood and Adaoha Akwiwu also kept the pressure on, taking the score to 10-15 at the end of the first half.
The second half of the match saw a try from Charlie Goode; this was converted successfully to Emily Attwood, who then scored a penalty kick shortly after. Despite the cold and the mud, the team kept the energy up and prevented the Panthers from taking any easy points. Effective passes from Jess Deacy-Clarke and Molli Coleman meant Harrogate continued their strong performance. Georgina Youlden closed the match as she started it, scoring one final try for Harrogate and taking the final score to 15-30.
Of particular note are Forward of the Match (Jess Deacy-Clarke), Back of the Match (Georgia Briggs) and Opposition Player of the Match (Rebecca Reeve-Burnett), however all members of the team helped make this match a rousing success. The season so far has given Harrogate Ladies a lot to be excited about, and they will next play on Sunday 12th November (Kick-Off at 2pm) against Manchester WRUFC, at The Apollo Stadium, Rudding Lane.
