Peter Bernard Glover (25 September 1945 – 12 March2024)

Peter Bernard Glover (25 September 1945 – 12 March2024) Harrogate Rugby Club is sad to announce that former Harrogate, England and Bath wing, Peter Glover, has died aged 78.

Peter played for Harrogate RUFC from 1972 to 1974 whilst he was stationed in North Yorkshire as an officer with the RAF. Because of his RAF commitments he was unable to play every week.

Born in York, Peter was a winger who gained three England caps between 1967 and 1971. He made his international debut against the touring Australians at Twickenham 7/1/67.At the time he was playing his rugby union for the Royal Air Force and Yorkshire.Following a stint with Bedford, he became based at RAF Lyneham and while with Bath made two further England appearances in 1971. He played alongside the likes of John Spencer, David Duckham, Nigel Starmer-Smith and Stack Stevens for England against the President’s Overseas XV, marking the RFU centenary in 1971 and was part of the team which drew 14-14 with France 27/2/1971.His final game for England was against a President’s XV on 17/4/1971. He also played for Bedford, and played 41 games for Bath. He was a true gentleman with a friendly manner and he was pleasure to be with.

Peter died in March 2024, at the age of 78.

(Brian Forshaw: I remember playing alongside Peter at Harrogate when I was Captain of Harrogate RUFC 1972/1973. He was an outstanding athlete with a big powerful frame, a swerve and exceptional speed. He played on the right wing but could have played in almost any position with his skill, his pace and his talent.)
