Harrogate, who’d disappointed up till then, dominated proceedings after the interval but could only score 7 points.
Hinckley’s forwards mounted early pressure on the Harrogate line and won a succession of penalties. A penalty try was awarded and Connor Eastgate’s conversion made put them 7 points ahead.
Harrogate responded but with disjointed attacks and handling errors kept surrendering possession. Jonny Coser came closest to scoring after a powerful break from a line-out but was tackled just short of the line. However an attempted Harrogate attacking chip was then charged down and Hinckley’s Jacob Umaga kicked on and showed good control to score another converted try. A Harrogate penalty opportunity was then missed which typified an uncharacteristic lack of accuracy in their general play. Hinckley’s final score came from yet another charged down clearance kick. Consistent pressure on Harrogate’s line resulted in a converted try from Matt Fearn.
The pattern changed in the second half with Harrogate’s pack in control. However a combination of good Hinckley defence, handling errors and worsening weather condition restricted them to only 1 try. Luke Edwards broke strongly on the right and showed tremendous strength and determination to squeeze over in the corner. Charlie Morgan’s touchline conversion made it 7-21 with 20 minutes remaining but, despite continued Harrogate pressure it proved to be the final score of the match.
