Opposition
Harrogate’s 75-0 loss against the same opposition last week could have been a serious morale booster. They lost again this week but, for some borderline decisions against them, the result could have been much closer.
Both sides tested each other’s defences in an evenly matched first half. Harrogate’s front row wasn’t at full strength so Luctonians had the edge in the scrums and this led to them having consistent territorial advantage. However, the match remained scoreless till 5 minutes before the interval when 2nd Row, Tom Smith scored a try from a driving maul.
A Lucs Owen Randell penalty extended their lead shortly after the restart and, with the wind behind them, they tested Harrogate’s defence for the rest of the match. A Sam Jones try from a driving maul made it 0-13 midway through the half and a Randell penalty further extended the lead.
Harrogate breakouts from defence seemed to have resulted in tries but were disallowed. Good Luctonians defence thwarted a Harrogate counter attack from deep and Jack Forsythe seized on a loose ball to score and make it 0-21
