The home side put the visitors under pressure from the start but a determined York side refused to yield.
The forwards played particularly well despite being noticeably smaller than their York counterparts and Hal Butler put in a man of the match performance with good support from the rest of the pack.
Scott Stevenson opened the scoring with a fine 30 metre run and Cameron Roberts added the extras. York replied with a try as their backs cut through the home defence which was missing some stalwarts from last season.
George Wilton showed some quick thinking to collect a loose ball and cross near the corner. Once again York replied to take the score to 12-10.
In the second half Callum Irvine and Cameron Roberts each scored a try, the latter a fine interception and Roberts added a conversion to take the final score to 24-10.
It was a full blooded match with both sides finishing with 14 players on the pitch.
