Harrogate Under 16s drew 5 -5 in a closely fought Yorkshire Cup tie against Old Brodleians who now progress into the next round, being the away team.

As expected it was a match between two strong and evenly matched teams neither of whom showed much sign of the protracted weather induced break since they last played.

Harrogate were missing the commanding presence of Callum Irvine away on a England trial but welcomed back George Hobson after a long break.

The team played well against a powerful Old Brods team which was particularly strong in the scrum and the line out. The home team took the lead in the first half with a clever long throw move in a line out with the ball collected by Cameron Roberts who popped it up to George Wilton who powered his way over the line.

Thereafter the play ebbed and flowed from one end to the other. Cameron Roberts distinguished himself in defence alongside good performances from all his team mates.

The second half was marred by an unseemly altercation involving a Harrogate player and some of the Old Brods' substitutes.

The referee showed a red card to the Harrogate player and to one of the visitors but the latter was not playing at the time and hence Harrogate played the last 30 minutes with a one man disadvantage.

The team played valiantly but it was perhaps inevitable that Old Brods would score eventually.

In the closing minutes the visitors' full back ran impressively as he had threatened to do for some time and finally the Harrogate line was crossed.

With the scores level it will be Old Brods who feature in the next round.
