Whitewash at Wetherby.....

The mornings result of played 12, won 12 suggest a one sided contest, however the Wetherby boys showed some good individual skills and scored plenty of tries during a morning of non-stop action.

As is often the case, HRUFC arrived with more players than the opposition which means that not all can take part in all the matches. However with some swift planning, all boys played in 2 matches and also took part in some training exercises during their ‘off time’.
The overall discipline of the Harrogate players is a particularly pleasing aspect of the game – they are listening, learning and then applying their skills to great effect in games. There were tries scored by most boys throughout the morning and the support running and quick offloading had the Wetherby defences back peddling.

Whilst at Twickenham the All Blacks managed 22 phases culminating in a try, at Grange Park HRUFC U7s managed a respectable 4 phase play before the 5 point dot down! Great progress, confident handling and most importantly the enjoyment of playing with friends for their club. This final point was evident when there was some stern resistance to making up the numbers for the opposition!!

We have training at home this coming weekend and some further work on the basic skills will set the squad up for more success in match situations. Undoubtedly this is strong year group with not only some stand out performers, but with a core of players that are very quickly getting to grips with the game. They should be as proud of themselves as their mums and dads are of them!!
