This was the first game of the season against an enthusiastic Selby side played in warm sunshine on a full junior pitch.

Harrogate started the game well, holding onto most of the possession and scored three first half tries, one converted.

The forward possession allowed the backs to open up, they worked well and set up the strong left wing Joe Whittington for two really well scored tries.

Hooker Luke Broadhurst claimed his first of the day also during the first half romp.

Second half, different game. A few injuries altered the team set up and Harrogate struggled to keep possession.

Selby stuck to their game plan and dominated open play, making some good turnovers, and claiming five penalties from Harrogate mistakes.

Harrogate took their few opportunities well though, and Luke and Joe scored a try a piece during this half.

Selby came back at the very end with some sloppy Harrogate tackling, and scored their first try of the day.

Final score 27 – 5 to Harrogate.

This was really a very good start to the season for Harrogate, a genuine team performance.

Some signs of good potential in the back line if forwards possession can be gained.

Fitness levels looked a little low, but early days.

Well done Harrogate.
