Depleted squad shows real character

Lost 56-21 v York

Man of the match - Evan Jones

Tackler of the match - Maddy Boocock

After much rearranging and last minute changes of plans, a 3 way home fixture against York and Huddersfield finally emerged as an away game against York.
However, due to half term and numerous players being unavailable, only 11 players made it to York, who kindly agreed to play 11 a side.

York kicked off and from the first breakdown turned over the ball and ran in unopposed for a try. It looked like we could be in for a long day, especially, when 2 minutes later they scored a second try.

However, Harrogate started to show a bit of spirit and began putting York under real pressure whenever they had the ball. Ethan, Maddy and Tom gave York no time on the ball and began forcing them into errors which then gave Harry Wilkinson & Oli Bryant space to make some good runs. The pressure finally told when Connor ripped the ball out of a maul and held off several tacklers for a well deserved try.

Harrogate continued to put pressure on York and when the ball was passed along the back line, Harry Willson made an excellent run before offloading the ball to Evan, who managed to stay infield and score in the corner, to level the match.

York came back strongly and managed to retake the lead with a score just before half time.

In the 2nd half there was no let up in effort and with Oli Bennett troubling his opposite number and excellent tackling from Maddy and Will as well as a fantastic try saving tackle by James, Harrogate continued to frustrate York.

However, with York making a number of substitutions and Harrogate beginning to tire, the pressure finally told and York scored after a couple of missed tackles. This was followed by 2 more tries from York.

Once again Harrogate showed some real character and fought back for Connor to score a carbon copy of his first try.

York had the last word with a try at the final whistle.

Despite the scoreline, this was an excellent performance by Harrogate. They never gave up and showed some real character against a very good York team.
